The park opened in 1945 as a beach for Black residents during segregation. Its history is part of the visit, not just background to an event venue.
The park information page lists vehicle entry at $5 Monday–Thursday, $10 Friday–Sunday and $12 on holidays. These are published rates checked September 5, not a quote for special-event access.
Hours need confirmation. That page gives seasonal closing times of 5 p.m. or 6 p.m., while the homepage says sunset. We cannot resolve that discrepancy from the website. Call 305-960-4600 before a late visit. This is not a live open/closed indicator.
The City lists $8 automobile admission. It publishes 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m. November–March and 7 a.m.–7 p.m. April–October, with earlier gate and departure cutoffs. No overnight parking is listed.
PADL and the City describe gate cutoffs differently. Use the City’s current park instructions and confirm the rental return deadline with PADL. Park closing time is not the last time you can collect a board.
Mountain biking, paddling or a wind-powered session?
Pick the activity and the exact access point together. A bike-trail entrance, a paddle rental and a kite launch are not interchangeable.

Where can I check Virginia Key mountain bike trail status?
Virginia Key Bicycle Club’s trail board separates novice, intermediate, advanced and expert routes and publishes individual trail status. Check its update label and on-site closures; park opening hours do not confirm that every trail is open.
At our September 5 check, the board’s label read “Updated Jul 29, 9:03 AM.” We are not repeating its open/closed counts as today’s confirmed trail condition. For a rental, check PADL Lagoon & Trails for a suitable bike, size, equipment and return deadline.
Launch rules still need confirmation. We have not verified a current published North Point kite-launch boundary or permit policy. Confirm the exact launch with City of Miami Parks at 305-416-1300 and follow on-site instructions.
A wind reading, wing-foil rental or open park gate is not kite-launch permission. Ask specifically about kiteboarding, not just “water sports,” and confirm any equipment, lesson or rider requirements for that location.
Use the NOAA wind and tide sources below for context, not as an all-clear for the launch. We do not publish a “good to kite” score from a remote station.
The operator’s Sail Club page lists sailboats, windsurfing, wing/foil equipment and paddling rentals. This is a separate stop from North Point and the three PADL locations compared below.
Confirm the precise meeting point, lesson availability and return cutoff for your activity. A listing for wing foiling does not confirm kiteboarding access at Hobie Beach.
For the Historic park, start with its civil-rights history and current visitor information. For guided activities or a volunteer day, confirm the actual date with the organizer; an old event page is not a recurring booking.
Open the original source and check its timestamp or playback state. These links do not certify that a camera is streaming now, that a launch is open or that the water is suitable for swimming.
Marina & bay view
Rickenbacker Marina camera
The marina publishes an EarthCam player. EarthCam identifies the view as the marina, Miami skyline, Powell Bridge and causeway. It is not a North Point launch or MTB-trail camera.
The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau includes a camera named “Virginia Key Beach Park, Key Biscayne.” Select that location in its webcam gallery. The label alone does not establish coverage of your beach segment or launch.
VAKF1 / 8723214 is NOAA’s Virginia Key station at 25.731° N, 80.162° W. Read the observation time for wind, gusts and water temperature; do not assume the same wind at North Point.
Tide predictions and observed water levels are different products. Neither is a measurement of current speed at a launch.
Camera imagery cannot measure bacteria. Check the exact sampling location and date on water-quality sources, and follow current official advisories and posted instructions.
Which PADL location should you choose?
Check the location on your confirmation, not just the PADL name. These three useful starting points have different addresses and service formats; this is not every PADL station.
Paddle + bike options
Lagoon & Trails

PADL lists kayaks, paddleboards and bikes, with a full-service shop and self-service options at North Point. Check the selected activity’s collection and return times.
PADL lists chair-and-umbrella packages as well as full-service and self-service paddling rentals. This is a different check-in from Lagoon & Trails. Confirm the package and access details before paying.
PADL describes a self-service kayak and paddleboard station. Use the app or operator page to check availability; a rental listing does not confirm access to the stadium structure or a public boat ramp.
Rental stock, weather decisions and staff availability are not live on this guide. Confirm suitability, equipment and current conditions with the operator before launch. We do not label any route “safe today” from a forecast or a photo.
Storage, docking or a boat ramp?
Those are three different needs. Choose the facility first, then ask about the specific service. None of the capacity figures on operator websites is a live availability count.

The operator lists wet slips, dry storage, fuel and service. Ask about transient docking before planning a restaurant stop; a table reservation does not reserve dock space.
The City describes dry-rack storage and REC90 fuel. Its listing carries a capacity/waitlist notice. Confirm current space, launch service and fuel hours directly; do not treat this as a confirmed public trailer ramp.
Miami-Dade lists boat-launching ramps, gas and diesel, and transient slips. The county publishes 24-hour ramp access, but that does not mean 24-hour office or fuel service. Launch and retrieval charges apply.
No. They are separate islands along the same causeway. Some operators use a Key Biscayne postal address even when the physical venue is on Virginia Key. We retain the operator’s postal address on venue pages and label the actual island separately. That is why Gramps Getaway, Rusty Pelican and Sunset Point appear in our main restaurant directory without being called Village restaurants.
What should you check today?
Start with Rickenbacker Causeway traffic and notices, then the specific park or operator. A sample at Crandon is not a water-quality result for every Virginia Key shoreline, and a regional sargassum map is not a report of what is on one beach. Read the location and observation date on our water-quality page and sargassum page before applying either to your plans.
